Kraków Mirror. In Nuremberg, the anniversary celebrations were scheduled for Saturday 17 July 2021. At 1:07 p.m. the churches of the Old Town: St. Lorenz, St. Sebaldus, St. Egidien and the chapel of the Heilig-Geist-Spital [Holy Spirit Hospital] tolled their bells sending a symbolical greeting to the Kraków jubilarian. The tolling of the bells was also a signal of the beginning of a day-long performance by the DAF artistic collective entitled “Bells of Distance”. A group of students and graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg used the sounds of the city, this time Nuremberg, mixing them with previously recorded sounds of Kraków and the sounds of the Sigismund Bell, to create experimental sound improvisations, which were resounded on Hans-Sachs Square and on the anniversary website. Video works by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków interpreting Jan Matejko’s painting “The Hanging of the Sigismund Bell” were available on monitors scattered around Dom Krakowski.

Throughout the day, the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts’ Intermedia Department composition “500×1” was resounded from the stage set up under the tower of Dom Krakowski, and in the evening the Kraków musicians’ duo SARAPATA x Jakub Żytecki performed their musical interpretation of the Sigismund Bell’s sound. The anniversary celebrations ended up with a laser projection by Artur Lis. With waves of light vibrating to the sound of the Sigismund Bell, the artist linked the church towers, from which the bells sounded a few hours earlier to honour the Sigismund Bell Jubilee, with the windows of the Krakauer Haus. This visual and acoustic reunion was a symbolic conclusion to the anniversary celebrations in Nuremberg.
